Around 4 to 5 weeks, weather permitting, we start to introduce the puppies to water in a small pool. Sometimes the puppies will happily go in on their own and other times they need to be placed inside. If after being placed inside, they want to hop out then we let them. Most of the puppies will learn to love the water eventually, but we never force them to do anything after the initial exposure. They want to play in the water? Awesome! They only want to drink from the pool? That works too!
We never want to create fear in our puppies so we always listen to how they tell us they feel about new experiences before proceeding. However, just because they don't like something today doesn't mean they'll feel the same way in the future so we will always encourage them to try again at a later time.
Puppies not a fan of walking or playing in the water? No problem, we also introduce them to water by spraying Mist or other fun water toys to introduce them to the joys of water. You'll often see Holly in the middle of all of the water play action because she just can't get enough of water!
