Puppies, driven by their natural curiosity, are particularly drawn to the enticing aroma of food. As they've learned to 'Mand' (asking for something by sitting), you'll often find them patiently seated by your feet during meal preparation. However, their eagerness occasionally leads them to jump up in pursuit of the yummy smells. This when they start to learn the command 'Off' to discourage jumping up while we're preparing their meals, encouraging good behavior around food.
If a puppy desires something, their instinct is to go straight for it. However, we've been diligently working with our puppies to establish a foundation for understanding the concept of impulse control, which involves waiting before reacting. Now, we're asking the puppies to demonstrate a bit of patience by waiting for short periods before they're allowed to eat their food.
