Our puppies aren't quite ready to explore the big wide world yet, but thankfully we can still provide them with positive and enriching experiences in our controlled environments (indoors and outdoors), positive vet experience, introduce them to safe adult dogs, and they also get to meet a variety of adults and children.
We only allow our puppies to interact with adult dogs who would be considered "Shapers." A "Shaper" will:
Often people believe that an adult dog who corrects a puppy by barking, growling, or snapping at them is what should be expected, but this can teach avoidance, fear and mistrust, that other dogs are not safe, and that problems should be solved with confrontation and aggression. There's no need for harsh corrections when the same social skills can be taught in a far more gentle way.
Being treated kindly as a puppy typically means when they grow up they will also treat puppies the same way!
Our puppies are exposed to a variety of new experiences when they go outside to explore our yard that include artificial turf, grass, plants, river rocks, and walking on cement surfaces. We have a 800sq ft dedicated play yard filled with fun enrichment toys for the puppies to climb, jump on, and run around during their outdoor playtime as well.
